At the root of so much hatred in our society – attitudes that are sexist, racist, homophobic, anti-immigration, anti-welfare, anti-union – there is a terror of questioning authority. Acknowledging what is wrong in the system that governs us has massive implications for our duty as citizens. Most people don’t want to get up and fight for what they know is right. So they don’t question it. But we cannot demand a better future if we will not question the past and the present.
